Physical banners have been used for many years to promote businesses, products and services. Whether you want to attract attention, convert customers, sell products or announce specials and discounts a well-designed printed banner can get the job done.
When designing your banner, there are a few things to consider like your target market and what kind of display the banner is for. In this two-part post, we look at six tips for effective banner design.
Size matters
When designing your banner steer clear of small fonts that are hard to read. As a rule of thumb avoid fonts that are smaller than 36pts. Keep your headings at a 144pts and larger and no smaller than 48pts for sub headings. Your banner should be easy to read from 10 feet away.

Consider lighting
Will your banner be surrounded by lighting? If the banner will be in a darkly lit place use bright colours on your banner. If the banner will be in a well-lit area avoid using bright whites and colours that are hard to see. Think about complimentary designs for your banner design.
Use awesome images
Everything is bigger on a banner so using high quality images is non-negotiable. All photos on banners should be 5×7 and larger to ensure you cover the minimum dots per inch. The more faces or elements in an image, the larger it should be. Using great images that are representative of your brand will draw attention to you for all the right reasons.
